While fasting, expect temptations and tests to occur. Remember, we don't live by food but by God's Word!

We are asking everyone in our church to participate in our annual 21 day fasting and prayer. It will beging on January 3 and end on January 23. We ask everyone to pick a day, a meal, a week or the whole 21 days to fast and seek God. We believe that this is the best way to start off 2012!

The church will be opened EVERY night during this season from 6:30 until. Please, make plans to join us for this incredible season.

Get ready for 2012! Praise will be starting our annual 21 days of fasting and prayer on January 3rd and ending it on the 23rd! We will be praying to get closer to God, for revival, for breakthrough, to see God do mighty things, and of course, for HIM to help us fulfill the vision He has placed on our hearts!

The email about our church plant

We emailed the missionary a few times before he was able to get back with us. I asked if he had info on the church plant and this is what he sent me:

"Yes but I've had a real stubble this year with all the fighting going on in Nigeria. Also, communication has been difficult with the districts. These two factors with all the other "spiritual battles" cause for a slow process. I am also to blame because I'm about 100 emails behind ... very SORRY!

We shifted your church plant from Kogi District to Jos Mainland District because of this process and I'm happy to give you this update that I received this week:

"Furakas A/G, Plateau State, Nigeria: A 4 day evangelism/medical event was held in the village of Furakas, a few kilometers from Jos, where a new church was being planted. The Pastor reported that 7 drunkards were prayed for in the morning hours of the first day and THE FORMER ALCOHOLICS went throughout the village bringing people to the event. The result on the second day of the event? The church was filled to capacity and there were many people standing outside. 174 patients were treated free of charge, including medication and 170 people were examined and fitted for eye glasses. Most importantly, this village which was historically resistant to the Gospel, experienced a great move of God, seeing many spiritual walls broken down and many lives set free, including 14 adults! This approach to evangelism has changed the perception of the new church and the Gospel is penetrating the village with many signs following. God is moving by His POWER!"

That was the report from the church that YOUR church helped us with. The name is Furakas A/G in Jos Mainland District. There were many more who accepted Christ but 14 is the number of adults that came to the first Sunday service. So it is a good start to a new church plant, especially given the difficult area the village is located.

I hope this helps and please tell the church thank you for giving because it has really impacted this area greatly. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Once again, sorry for the delay and thank you all for your sacrifice.

We Americans are a blessed people, but we are also spoiled. I know I am. I can get flustered over the stupidest things—like when my cellphone doesn’t get a good signal, when a flight is delayed or when my computer takes too long to load a website. Most people in the world don’t have iPhones, can’t afford air travel and don’t have computers. My impatience reveals my ungrateful spirit.

So how can we avoid this virus of selfish immaturity? Thankfulness is the antidote. It melts our pride and crushes our sense of entitlement. It reminds us that everything we have comes from God, and that His mercy is the only reason we are blessed.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I pray you will invite the Holy Spirit to convict you of any whining. Here’s a list of 10 blessings that many people in the world don’t have. Go over this list and then see if you still have anything to gripe about.

1. Got clean water? The next time you uncap a bottle of water or grab a drink from the tap, remember that one in eight people in the world (that’s 884 million people) lack access to clean water supplies. Millions of women around the world spend several hours a day collecting water. When you take a five-minute shower, you use more water than a typical person in a developing country uses in a whole day.

2. Do you have a bathroom? About 40 percent of the world's population (2.6 billion people) do not have toilets. Lack of sanitation facilities spreads disease and is a major reason why more than 2 million people die annually of diarrhea.

3. How’s your electricity? The power in my house might be interrupted briefly three times a year because of Florida storms. But 1.6 billion people—a· quarter of humanity—live without any electricity. And, because of unreliable infrastructure, at least 2 billion people on earth don’t have any light at night.

4. Got a roof over your head? One billion people live in slums. That's almost one-sixth of the world’s population. Of this total, 640 million children live without adequate shelter; they live in cardboard boxes, tin-roofed shacks, one-room mud huts or filthy, crowded tenements. It’s been estimated that 1.4 billion people will live in slums by 2020. Meanwhile here in the United States, between 2.3 to 2.5 million people are classified as homeless.

5. Is there food on your table? In the United States we are battling an obesity epidemic. Yet according to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. Approximately 790 million people in the developing world are chronically undernourished, and almost 28 percent of all children in developing countries are estimated to be underweight or stunted.

6. Got a stove? In developing countries, some 2.5 billion people use fuelwood, charcoal or animal dung to meet their energy needs for cooking. In sub-Saharan Africa, more than 80 percent of the population depends on these crude, traditional means for cooking, as do over half of the populations of India and China. The really sad part: Indoor air pollution resulting from the use of solid fuels claims the lives of 1.5 million people each year, more than half of them below the age of 5.

7. Got regular income? You may have had to take a pay cut during the recession. But keep in mind that at least 80 percent of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. The world's average income is about $7,000 a year. Still, only about 19 percent of the world's population lives in countries with per capita incomes at least this high.

8. Did you go to school? Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. Enrollment data shows that about 72 million children of primary school age in the developing world were not in school in 2005 (and 57 percent of them were girls).

9. Are you generally healthy? Americans face illness like people in other nations—and more than 12 million Americans are battling cancer in any given year. But many of us have access to health care. In the developing world, more than 2.2 million children die each year because they are not immunized. An estimated 40 million people in developing countries are living with HIV/AIDS. Every year there are 350–500 million cases of malaria, with 1 million fatalities, mostly in Africa.

10. Are you free to worship God? More than 400 Christians die for their faith every day around the world, and most of these believers suffer in Islamic countries—although the top hot spot for Christian persecution, according to Open Doors International, is the atheist regime of North Korea.

What will you be grateful for this Thanksgiving? In these tough economic times you may feel the urge to complain. Be thankful instead! God calls us to live above this negativity. When we give thanks in all things, God gives us a supernatural attitude adjustment. When we thank God for all He has given us, acknowledging that we don’t deserve His goodness, our grumbling melts into gratitude and our impatience turns to praise.

I cannot believe that August is already here. Before you know it, children will be back in school and football season will kick off. That being said, I want bring 3 things to your attention today.

1. Our church is starting something we are calling 'PRAISE TV'. It will air on Charter channel 17 on Wednesday and Thursday nights @ 9:30 p.m. Our media team, led by Stephen Wollwerth, wants to put something on TV that no one else in the area is doing. Our desire is to reach as many people as possible and this unique venue can potentially get us into 13,000 homes.

2. Don't look now, but "Octoberfest" is 'just around the corner'. Our team has been working on this annual ever since the last event ended. Get ready for a GREAT outreach to the community. And get this, we are expecting over 4,000 people at this year's event. We will have more rides, more fun, more of everything!

3. One more thing. We will start organizing and planning for our Children's Christmas musical THIS MONTH! We love our annual Christmas musical and we believe that this year's experience will be better than ever! This year our musical will be on DECEMBER 11th. Go ahead and make plans to be a part of this year's event.

Acts 2:1-12

1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

SEVEN THINGS I HAVE LEARNED

1. A bumpy start does not mean failure

2. This is a ‘It has to be God’ church

Mother’s day

I. INTRODUCTION

All I want for Mother’s Day is:
• My husband to remember
• My husband home
• Kids not fighting
• Breakfast in bed, a spa and quiet time
• A positive pregnancy test
• Kids to be safe
• My kids to know Jesus
• A day off
• Flowers
• To be able to see my kids and grand kids
• A day of peace and quiet and some personal space....a day to have to do nothing without being behind the next day
Mother’s responding greatest Joy /biggest challenge:
• Greatest Joy is seeing child grow and personality develop – challenge was not being selfish anymore – their needs before mine
• Joy – seeing them live the Word - make the discipline worth while
• Gregoire – How strong they are….My little girl is a fighter
• I am privileged to leave a legacy for future generations.
• The Joy in seeing that happy that you made time for them
• Joy of them asking Jesus into their hearts
• God has entrusted me with these children....this is an amazing honor!

Jump into the Journey

This is what the Lord impressed upon me about a month ago. We have been faithful to ‘sow’ in the first part of this year (by giving, praying, loving, sharing), and the season of ‘harvest’ is here. Get ready! I believe the Lord is about to ‘blow us away’ with His goodness.

Here are 7 things I believe we can expect:

1. Church Growth and fresh Vision
a. Increase in numbers
i. Reach more people
ii. Grow more people
iii. Bring in leaders
iv. Raise up leaders
b. Vision – statement
i. Multicultural, Spirit filled, church making JESUS FAMOUS
ii. Purpose

18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

2. Increased Spiritual Warfare

Here is a story about Cuba and what it Lord is doing!:

One Assemblies of God Pastor from Arkansas, had preached in one of the illegal house churches. There were 250 people crammed in a garage with no air conditioning. The service lasted an hour and 45 minutes. He preached almost an hour. And – half the crowd stood the entire time – there wasn’t even enough room to even sit on the floor.

He took Fire Bibles to give to the Pastor and his leaders. He had to give the Bibles to them privately, in another room. The pastor said if the people knew I had Bibles, they would be very sad I didn’t have enough for everyone.

The leaders stood in the room, expectantly waiting. The Cuban Pastor told them, “This is a treasure. I prayed and waited for six years for my study Bible. You’ve only had to pray and wait for six months.”

The American pastor said, “would have thought I handed them a million dollars. I will never forget the woman who couldn’t open her Bible because she was crying so hard. I had to open it for her.”

Almost every house church is led by a lay leader with no Internet, no library, no Christian bookstore. All they have, if they are lucky, is their Bible.
If they wept over a study Bible, can you imagine the difference Bible School will make?

Problem:
We’re not allowed to import the textbooks. We were told they must be printed in Cuba.
To make it more difficult, it is illegal to import paper into Cuba.
To make it even more difficult, you can’t buy paper in Cuba. The government won’t allow it, because it could be used to print propaganda.
Can’t import books. Can’t import paper. Can’t buy paper.
Cuba Bible College looked finished before it started.
Cuban Pastoral leaders worked with the people at Global University to find an effective way to convert all the courses to a Kindle format. They knew they were working on something that could literally change the world.

Imagine if we were able to put Bible college on something that could be easily carried into and if needed, hidden in communist countries and other places where the church is persecuted.

A Kindle is an e-book reader. This stack of books is what we needed to print for each Cuba Bible School student. It would have cost over $2,000 per student to do it - if we could find the paper. Now, the entire curriculum is loaded on a Kindle – for $139.
We have already got the first 400 Kindles into Cuba without a problem. The students are excited!
Now, only 2600 Kindles to go and the first 3,000 students are provided for.

Change - part 2

No one puts new wine into old wine skins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wine skins, and both are preserved. No man having drunk old wine immediately desires new, for he says, ‘The old is better.’

Luke 5:37,38

In this parable, Jesus is stating the difficulty of something new (here in particular the 'New Covenant') being received by something old. As one commentator states, new wine skins have yet to be stretched, but 'old wine skins had been "stretched to the limit" or become brittle as wine had fermented inside them; using them again therefore risked bursting them.'

As we walk through change, we have to look at the 'new wine' and we need to prepare our 'wine skins.' This is why change must be received at the right time!

Here are a few more changes coming up at Praise:

1. Support more and more missionaries and mission projects. (Just this week we have committed to help more poor and needed throughout the world)
2. Remodel and move our Children's ministry area (See Monday's blog)
3. Create another Worship Experience. We are currently meeting twice on Sunday at 9:15 and 10:45. Starting Easter Sunday, we will be worshiping at 9 a.m.(Family Service), 10:15 a.m (Contemporary Service), and 11:35 a.m(Overdrive - Can't be explained, only experienced). We believe that the sky is the limit and God is going to do some amazing things.

The one thing constant in this life is CHANGE.

The One who never changes is GOD!

He is always leading us to grow closer, dive in deeper, and move passionately as we follow Him, His purposes, and His ways. The disciples knew that could not stay where they are and go where God was taking them.

I have read and re-read Henry Blackaby's book Experiencing God and believe it has been a vital teaching to my life and ministry. The Key Points (and outline) of the book:

God is always at work around you.

God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal.

God invites you to become involved with Him in His work.

God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and
the church to reveal Himself, His purpose, and His ways.

God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action.

You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing.

You come to know God by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work through you.

The key for us as a church (and me) is the statement:

God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action.

So, we are changing and believing that God is leading us to follow Him and see great things happen. So, here are a FEW things that we are going to be doing:

1. Support more and more missionaries. Our desire is to increase our support for missionaries, add new missionaries, and hopefully, plant churches in the nations around the globe. I believe God is leading us in this direction.

2. Increase our Children's area. We are going to remodel our children's church and we are in the process of moving our children's church area to the 'cafeteria' in order to make more room for our elementary age children. This will give us a great opportunity to expand our ministry 'reach' and see the lives of children changed by the gospel.

The Goodness of the LORD - Part 6

"He restores my soul" Ps. 23:3

The idea of restoration is taking something that's beat up, worn or rejected and making it useful - it brings a great sense of satisfaction.

What is a Soul?

A. It embraces the essence of life (Gen. 2:7).

B. Soul includes heart (emotions), mind (understanding), will (strength) (Mk. 12:33).

C. The soul goes on after death (Gen. 35:18-19). The Bible is clear that the soul gets used and abused so that it finds itself in regular need of restoration.

I. Malnutrition (weak) - (Ps. 107:5-9)

God's desire is to lead you to green pastures and still waters, but some soul starvation is a result of our own rebellion (Ps. 106:7-15). Notice: Having your request met, is not necessarily a healthy soul. This week was a time of soul feeding! (Ps. 107:8-9).

II. Wounded - (Job 24:12)

A. Bitterness - (Job 21:25; Eph. 4:31; Heb. 12:14-15)

B. Empty - (Ps. 109:21-22 - vs. 30,31) Privation of friends, commodities, love, etc. exercise (Prov. 11:17).

III. Worn Out - (Matt. 11:28-30)

Burdened down with sin, doubt, guilt, unbelief, and a whole host of other things that the devil puts on a person in this life. Some however is self induced.

Scripture teaches us that God restores us by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26-27). The Holy Spirit works through prayer, the Scriptures and through people (Hebrews 10:25).

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Ps. 147:3

Restoration is a vital part of the gospel. God forgives, heals, cleanses and yes, restores.

Day 6 - The Kas Chetri Nationality

Found in far Western Nepal, concentrated in Jumla District

The Kas Chetri people are located in the mountainous regions of fu West Nepal. Primarily located in Jumla, "the seedbed" for Himalayan culture, language, and spirituality, this group are thought to be the original inhabitants of that area. They're on the border line of being traditional high caste Hindus, and some wear the sacred thread of the Brahman/Chetri caste. They are also called the Matawala Chetris which actually means the 'liquor drinking" Chetris. This distinguishes them from typical high caste Hindus who abstain from all alcoholic beverages.

Their Hinduism takes on a form of Shamanism, with the predominance of the dami-jakri or a type of Hindu witchdoctor, in their society. One finds few shrines in the villages of the Kas Chetri, other than the clan deity shrines, but the territorial spirits are worshipped and recognized. Spiritual encounters and interaction are a common part of Kas Chetri life.

The vast majority of Kas Chetri people have never heard the name of Jesus, or understood the basic gospel message. The spiritual environment in Jumla is very resistive, and those who have believed have come up against intense spiritual attack. Because of the spiritual atmosphere of the area, however, these people are very open to spiritual things, and to physical demonstrations of God's power, love and reality.
Key Prayer Points:

* Pray for women to receive the gospel. The Kas Chetri women are very communal and closely tied to one another. Though some men have believed, there is the need to see families coming to Christ. Pray for spiritual hunger and a desire for truth to break through the fear of society so women will begin to turn to Christ.

* Pray for freedom from the powers behind Hinduism and curses over the area. The origin of Nepali culture, religion, history, etc. and of many of the Hindu gods comes from the Jumla area.

* Pray for the protection of the fragile "seeds". Those who do believe have to grow in very "rocky soil'. Pray for strength, and protection for new believers.

There is nothing like being at peace and living in peace.

Peace is no just the absence of conflict. It is the sense of a heart being settled in the middle of a 'storm'. It is about 'knowing' in your heart that everything is going to be alright while all signs point to things going 'bad.'

Peace brings strength, courage, grace, and most of all REST!
